This is a residential area in the North of Rome, not much tourists here except those staying at the Moevenpick Central Park hotel (see my tip) or visitors of the Gemelli hospital.
The district comprises very few restaurants. Here some comments about 3 places were we had food:

Restaurant MOSCATI of the hotel Moevenpick Central Park.
Quality of food, wines and service were excellent. Count 90 € - 150 € for two, wine included. Wines are of superior quality here but start at 19 €/bottle.

Of course this is not a trattoria with a "vino de la casa"!

We tested “Trattoria Sacchetti” but the reception was so rude, although we spoke Italian that we went out without eating.
Low prices but as my wife said the staff seemed to be a bunch of "abrutis".
We never met such impolite reception in all Italy.

There is a pizzeria "I GEMELLONI" near the Gemelli hospital, on a corner of the via Pineta Sacchetti (n° 211)
All kind pizza parts are sold by weight. Was good and cheap. Wine "de la casa" at 3,50 € for 1/2 liter

We got a very kind reception at another simple PIZZERIA and bio store GAIA BIO, Lgo Guido Cencetti, 13-14 located between the via Pineta Sacchetti and the Hotel Moevenpick.
We ate bruschetta at 1,50 €, excellent very thin pizza at 6 - 8 €, wonderful "calzone".
Good Tuscany or Puglia wines at 10 - 14 €/bottle. We have been here several times.

In between the luxury restaurant and the sober pizzeria there seems to be nothing in this area.

When visiting the remarkable museum of the Palazzo Altemps, a few hundred meters north of Piazza Navona, one might look for a not too touristy restaurant what is not easy to find in this area.
After looking at some restaurants with terraces typically for tourists we found on the ground floor of the building where is located the Hotel Genio, behind the corner, a trattoria independent of this hotel.
No waiter was posted outside to attract tourists and from the carte we could see they served wine from the house at normal prices for Italy. So we decided to have a look inside.
The waiter as well as the clients at the tables spoke Italian and indeed Trattoria Pizzeria Fiammetta appeared to be a normal Roman restaurant, with normal Italian food and wine at normal Italian prices. Furthermore as the food was good, the service kind, we had a quite pleasant lunch and will return there if we are again in that area.

Me again, just checking back to read your new tips and updates since my last visit to this page on October 9, 2008. I hope Emperor Augustus had a sense of humor & laughed when his curule chair collapsed in the Theatre of Marcellus. (But I doubt it.)

Je vois que nous partageons une fascination de la Ville éternelle: i pini di roma, foro romano, les églises, et les musées. J'ai même lu les Mémoires d'Hadrien (en français)! Rome me manque déjà...
