"Haut Koeningsbourg." Saint-Hippolyte by breughel

Haut Koeningsbourg in the snow.

In the plain of Alsace near the town of Sélestat the sky was just gray.
From St-Hippolyte on it started to snow and we arrived by the twisting road at the castle where the sight was nil because of falling snow. We were in December and the Vosges culminate at more than 1300 m.
For us who live in the “low country” the Vosges are already “high mountains”!

Haut-Koeningsbourg at an altitude of 755 m generally allows very wide sights on the valley of the Rhine. We did not have this chance, on the other hand the ascent and descent in the snow was rather impressive as well as the look of the fortifications under the white blanket.

We intended to visit this year. This didn't happen as we took the wrong overpass road!

We were somewhat uneasy because we had no snow tires.

A nice new page on Haut Koeningsbourg in the snow! This is a part of Alsace I have never visited (so far) but I can imagine it would be fine especially for the view (which you didn't see because of the blizzard), but also to see the reconstructed castle.
