Bodrum / Gümbet

Arrival

Evil Eye
The first part of Bodrum that you'll propably see is the airport, which is the main point of entry to the Bodrum area, and the resorts which lie close by.

The airport, it has to be said is one of the most unusual I have ever visited, as baggage reclaim is practically beside the taxi-rank - I arrived bleary eyed after a delayed flight from Manchester, so the only thing I took in was a sign saying the fine for smoking was millions of Lira.

Remember, on your way back, the cafe is overpriced and everything is priced in Euros.
Gümbet

Gümbet

Gümbet, is the resort close to Bodrum where I spent a glorious week in 2005.

Make no mistake, Gümbet is Package Holiday Central, but the resort itself has been spared the overdevelopment seen in Spain, and has managed to retain both its own character, as well as village services.

There are various bars and clubs in Gümbet Centre, so if you're looking for drinking and clubbing action into the wee small hours, then you won't be disappointed. If that's not your bag, then there are plenty of restaurants and cafes both modern and traditional in the resort - for everything more cosmopolitan, Bodrum is a quick ride away on the dolmus.
Bodrum

Bodrum

Bodrum itself is a charming town, although it has succumed somewhat to the tourist market - there are several squares lined with cafes, and every other street sells designer (name) jeans and t-shirts for prices that can be haggled down.

The harbour area in Bodrum is beautiful, especially by sunset, and you can walk along and see all kinds of boats, or watch the sunset from a restaurant or cafe.
