Bassano is a city close to the prealpi Venete in Vicenza province. It is about 70km north west of Padova and 40 Km north east of Venice.
It is famous for its wooden bridge, that owe its actual shape to Andrea Palladio, but it have been rebuild several times, first for a huge flood in the 1700 than by the German bombs when the soldiers were leaving after the end od the war. This last time it have been rebuild by the italian army corps "Alpini" that is why it is now famous as Ponte degli Alpini.
But Bassano is not just the bridge, the city is lively and nice and offer very good traditional food.
Some specialties are white asparagus (spring time), grappa (a very strong alchoolic drink), cherries and different kind of cheese that come from the mountains nearby.
