Duino Travel Guide: 19 reviews and 89 photos

Duino is a small village west of Trieste, it is reachable driving the coastal road "Strada Costiera" past Miramare in Monfalcone/Venice direction.
Its most known feature is the castles, the old one is a ruin but the new one is the residence of the prince Thurn und Taxis.
It felt kind of strange, while I was buying the tickets to visit it, to hear the receptionist answer the phone saying "Good morning your highness..."
The village also has a small port and some shops and restaurant near the waterfront.

Duino is also the starting point of the Rilke trail, a tourist trail that connect the villages of Duino and Sistiana and provide wonderful scenic view over the gulf of Trieste. It is named after the Prague poet Rainer Maria Rilke, it was abandoned for a long time but restored in the late '80 by the municipality of Trieste.
