Venice - Off the tourist path

by oriettaIT - last update: Jun 11, 2009

As I am so lucky to live just at 40 kilometers from this dream city, I visit it often and I like mostly to stroll on calli that are far from the crowded tourist areas.
Cannareggio and the Ghetto are the areas I prefere.

You ought to come in February to see it so empy!!

Venice is always crowded, i have been there so many times and in so many different months, seemed to never stop being full of tourist, but the first week end of february this year I saw Piazza San Marco as you can see... empty!!
It was a great surprise that morning to wake up in our hotel and see the snow coming down... and so cold!! Unfortunally the snow melted when touch the ground but discouraged people to go around and i could see it as i never saw before.
See my album from some picture of snow in Venice.

Venice is wonderful - can't imagine it with snow and no people - last time we were there water was bubbling up in San Marco Square, as the flooding began

You have picked great place to take front-page photo for your Venice page. Ponte dei Tre Archi is beautiful. You are lucky to live near Venice, and lucky to have opportunity to visit Cappella degli Scrovegni often. Best regards, I&V
