Ibiza mi amor

The balearic pearl

Formentera - Platja des Illetes
Right now I'm sitting at the balcony of my current hotel in Ibiza. The view is stunning, the sparkling ocean right beneath me, palm trees and if I stretch my neck I see the thick walls protecting Dalt Vila in Ibiza town. No wonder why people love this island. The last years Scandinavian tour operators have withdrawn from Ibiza because of the San Antonio scene. There's so much more to the island that I'm pleased to see its popularity growing again.

Back home

I'm back home from my holiday in Ibiza.. it's sad. I will be updating my Ibiza pages the next days, writing tips and posting lots of photos!!! When we booked the trip I tried to find some decent Ibiza advice I could benefit from, but there were not many tips that were helpful and I didn't learn much. My goal is to create a great Ibiza page with lots of detailed helpful information and guidance because I know I'd like that!!

A review of my holiday in Ibiza

Had the best time in Ibiza this summer. We didn't have the best start of our vacation as the hotel we originally booked had thrown away our booking and had no room for us. We were transferred to another hotel, Hotel Torre del Mar. It was nice but the decor was a bit outdated and not my kind of taste. But the pool was nice, cleaning was good, the rooms were okay and we had a balcony with palm view (it was supposed to be ocean view but the palm trees were blocking our view) The breakfast buffet was good and we had wireless internet connection and a mini bar. We relaxed by the pool or at the beach, lovely Playa d'en Bossa. Playa d'en Bossa has something for everyone - it's a looong stretch of fine-coarsed white sand and clean water, sunbeds & umbrellas for rent and if you want the party scene there's Bora Bora and the beach clubs. There are not many interesting restaurants in the area so we went into Ibiza town at night. A lovely town with lots of cool shops and boutiques, busy outdoor bars with a funny clientele (drag queens and dancers). Lots of lovely restaurants.. and then there's Dalt Vila - the magnificent old town of Ibiza. Loved it!
We went on a boat trip to Formentera - which was great - Platjas des Illetes is like paradise - turquoise water and white sand.
Clubbing is a big part of Ibiza and we could not leave the island before sampling the Ibiza vibe. We visited Pacha, Privilege, Amnesia and El Divino. Great atmosphere, lots of people and very hot - and of course great music and lots of dancing! Yes it is overpriced and yes you have to pay 8-10 euros for a bottle of watr (250 ml). But it's worth it!
San Antonio is blessed with the sunset cafes on sunset strip. We went twice. The first time was pure magic. We went to Cafe del Mar and drank Sangria. Loved it! The second time we went to Savannah as they also serve food! I recommend renting a car to explore the island. We rented a car for two days and visited Ses Salines (beautiful beach!), the hippie market in Es Canar, Santa Eulalia (second or third largest town in Ibiza), Benirras (a favorite beach among the bongo-drummiing hippies), and a lot more!

I recommend Ibiza to everyone with even the slightest acceptance of electronic music (because it is everywhere, in the hotel, bars, shops) because it's such a lovely island!

Top 5 in Ibiza:
* Clubbing - Pacha, Amnesia.. just go the day your favorite DJ plays or if you don't have one - go on a popular day to get the real Ibiza club experience
* Sunset at a sunset cafe - Cafe del Mar is the ultimate experience, but there are other sunset cafes as well
* Ses Salines - beautiful beach - crystal clear water, white sand.. with beach clubs, music, but it's very shallow so it's good for families with kids as well.
* Formentera - the neighbor island with paradise-like beaches!
* Dalt Vila - magnificent old town with charming streets and shops and great restaurants, + supberb view over Ibiza town

It's ok to miss out on:
* The hippy market in Es Canar - way too crowded and not hippie-like anymore
* Benirras - famous beach up north, you can only get there by car and it's not that special - lots of other great beaches

Pros:"sangria, clubbing, pretty people, great atmosphere, pretty beaches, international atmosphere"
Cons:"english hooligans, rip-offs (overpriced tickets!), smoking allowed inside clubs"
