Navigating the transportation system in Hakone was a refreshing experience in itself. As we happened to travel on a weekday, we bought a Hakone Weekday Pass, which was eligible for 2 consecutive days and allowed us to try on the following modes of transportation:
From Hakone Yumoto Station to Gora: Hakone Tozan Railway

From Gora to Sounzan summit: funicular tram

From Sounzan to Togendai: cable car (otherwise known as ropeway)

From Togendai to Hakone-machi or Moto-Hakone: across Lake Ashi by boat

From Hakone-machi to Odawara: bus

As the ropeway service may be suspended due to strong winds, travellers would do well to make contingency plans so that they wouldn't feel stranded if this happens to them.
