I literally fell in love with Santorini from the very first moment we landed.
It was the first week of June and the island was getting ready for the summer crowd, with the same excitement that characterizes the Christmas preparations.
Building were being re-painted, and the brand new blinding white was in perfect contrast with the deep blue sky. The island summer wind was blowing over the dry land.
After a quick shower, we went to Fira for lunch-time, and we ended up on the pedestrian path bordering the caldera: one of the most impressive places I had ever been!
After one hour in Santorini you realise you are waking on one of the World most powerful volcanoes, and you start feeling its attraction; people from Santorini say that they could not live without their volcano, and their volcano could not live without them. The island has been heavily mutilated by eruptions, but its original shape can still be imagined.
After a delicious pita, we decided to rent a bike and we started exploring the island straight away, and stopped one week later, when we were forced to go back to reality. I keep a lot of memories from those days, they are still vivid pictures in my mind.
Santorini is famous because of its wonderful sunsets. Wherever you are at sunset time, you cannot help stopping and relishing the wonderful atmosphere, maybe sipping a nice drink on a balcony overlooking the caldera.
