Frommers guidebook says Zhaoxing "is one of those places where the rewards that await you are in direct proportion to the difficulty in getting there". Very true, even to this day. But soon that will change. A highway that will connect the province of Guizhou to Guangxi is being built. Zhaoxing does not see a lot of tourists these days. With the highway, busloads of local tourists will start to descend on Zhaoxing. We're lucky to be there before it became another Dali, or worse, another Lijiang. The Dong people are very friendly. We stayed over 3 days. Could have stayed longer to see more villages. Maybe next time...
