I flew up to Phuket exactly a week after the tsunami hit Thailand. The damage was less than I had expected, due to the Thai governments quick cleanup process. Patong beach and all the major areas were cleared enough to let the party roll on. Some of the place further north seemed to be hit worst. Everything was covered in dirt, and people were everywhere trying to salvage what they could from the disaster. Many locals lined the streets, in the tourist areas, covering the sidewalk with clothes and knick-knack's found in the rubble. The stuff was cleaned and resold. I found it quite inspiring how the people could pick up and move on after such an incident.
