Charter Sailing in the BVI

by atofuri - last update: Dec 10, 2006

Three families, one 46' catameran, tons of fun

Rainbow Rider off The Baths, Virgin Gorda, BVI
We visited The Baths, The Bitter End, Trellis Bay, Marina Key, Cane Garden Bay, Jost Van Dyke, the Indians, Norman Island and back to Tortola. Sailing and snorkling by day, rum drinks by night, and good food all along the way.
Corsairs' owner Vinnie

Jost Van Dyke

Foxy's Tamarind Bar was the place to be, but be sure to stop by Corsairs and see Vinnie. He makes a mean Painkiller.

The night before we we there, Kid Rock was at Foxy's and played with the band. The night we were at Jost Van Dyke, Foxy's was full of tourists that came over on the ferry from St. Thomas. That's how we met Vinnie. Corsairs may very well become The place to party on JVD.
Approach to The Indians - Norman Island beyond

Snorkling at The Indians

The Indians offer some fantastic snorkling. No coral bleaching here as of 2004. Loaded with fish, orange and yellow sponges, purple fan coral, and lots of other living coral. The water is up to 50 feet deep around the pinnicles of rock, so it's a popular scuba site as well. The Indians are located between St. Johns, USVI, and Norman Island, BVI. Mooring balls are set away for larger boats, and a dingy line at the rocks make it easy to access. Anchor in The Bight at Norman Island- have dinner on the Willie Thorton, a floating restaurant. Almost anything can happen on the Wille T.

Pros:"The best place for a week charter from the States"
Cons:"The interior of Tortola is dreadful. A lot of very poor people and the corresponding filth."
In A Nutshell:"They not called "Painkillers" for nothing."
