Landed here in the dark so never saw the scope of the place..... Was this a good thing or a bad thing.... mmmmm.
Being here quite a few weeks and now and there really isnt much to do or see.
Here because the husband works here.... meet up with some of the other wives for lunch and yes the ladies do that.
Here for(Nauryz) the Kazakh New Days Celebrations , will add photos at a later date.
The costumes, the dancing the food.... just beautiful.
Atyrau is an old dirty and dusty place, but new structures and housing popping up all over, but still doesnt hide the poverty that is here... People are warming now to the westerners, but Im still warned it is a dangerous place. So do not walk about out of your safe zone, and keep a guard up at all times....
There is really nothing to do here, and I mean nothing.
Nothing to see, a few statues a mosque, a church...
No shopping malls, a few shopping centers but not as we know them. And a few do have one or two international items (Tetley teabags).
But do remember, if your young or free and single, well here the later really doesnt have to apply.....
That Atyrau has the highest rate of T.B. and Syphilis in the country.... But I do not find this surprising as the 2 main hobbies here are Sptting, and thats morning noon and night.... male, female, young old....
And the other..... shagging.

If you plan on coming here and will be here in the winter months bring your THERMALS....

• Pros:still trying to think of something.
• Cons:Dont be flash, dont flash the wallet or jewellry, dont upset the locals, or your just asking to be mugged...
• In a nutshell:Give the place 60 years and hopefully with all the new foriegn companies moving in... they might just get there.
