A town of two halves

Old Town at dusk
Albufiera has something to offer whatever your taste. The old town offers charm and sandy beaches and a quieter more traditional dining experience in the evening. The Strip meanwhile, offers music and dancing into the early hours.

The Old Town

The quieter part of Albufeira. Here you will find an old fishing village that has been turned over to tourism. Narrow streets are crammed full of Restaurants, bars and shops. This is probably the best area for evening meals especially if you like traditional food and fresh fish. The main square is a good place to sit in dappled shade and watch the world go by. Although the whole thing had been dug up on our last visit to have new pipes laid, I assume and hope they will put it back to how it was when they have finished. The beach here is beautiful, all golden sand and stretching for miles.

The Strip

The louder more lively part of Albufeira. Lots of of bars here, some with live entertainment, mainly rock music, some of which is of a very good standard. Matts bar became a favourite for drinks. Restaurants here are all very much the same when it comes to the menu. Most of the food we had here was very bland, even to the point of not being able to finnish our meals on one occasion. Although one exception is "El Bolero" a little mexican restaurant not far from the Hotel Montechero, This one is definitely worth a visit.

I've never been to Portugal, but as a family member has just bought a property out there, that might be changing soon! :)) Wonder why Wilds is SO expensive??
