Venezia.......CHE BELLA CITTA!

by Patricialuv - last update: Aug 19, 2009

When in Venice........have this in mind....

Basilica of St. Mark
Venice is a truly romantic place to visit. The corridors, the gondolas, and the canals. The San Marco Square is an incredible place to visit.

Venice is always filled with tourists, and pigeons!

Aside from all that, it also has some incredible architectural buildings like the Basilica of S. Marco, La Chiesa Santa Maria della Salute, and famous bridges like L'Accademia.

There are many museums and palaces enchanted with beautiful treasures, so don't forget to visit them!

If you come in by train, you will pass the Ponte Scalzi or the Station bridge, and next to it is the Church of S. Maria di Nazareth. Passing by many touristic shopping stores, and crossing over the many small, big, narrow, and wide bridges that Venice has around 400 bridges altogether....!!
I was amazed at the size of the Piazza S. Marco! Right in front of it is St. Mark's Basilica, built with five oriental domes that cover the Basilica's top. With a lot of Byzantine architectural style as well as Gothic, Islamic and Renaissance elements.

Inside the Basilica many domes are in honor of different saints such as St. Leonard, St. John and St. Isidore. The height of the Basilica seems as though it contains eight stories worth. The inmensity of each detail, arch, and column is incredible and I admired the amount of meticulous detail and the variety of different types of architectural styles all conglomerated in an orderly fashion.

Pros:"The museums, canals, gondolas, romantic sites"
Cons:"too many tourists, too many pigeons."
In A Nutshell:"Looking for Romance? Enlightenment? Breathtaking sites? Venice is the place to be!"
