  • If you want to know the best time to visit Santo Domingo, there isn't. That's because anytime is a great time!!!

In the summer time, although it is quite hot and humid at times, there are good deals on hotels and beach resorts.

Many parties every day, especially on Sundays, where you will see the whole city going to some beach and at dawn, all parked up in the malecon or on a busy avenue, either chatting, eating up a nice dinner, drinking or dancing.

In the winter time, it gets a bit breezy, nothing to be worried about! You can still go to the beach in December. Airlline ticket prices and hotel prices go up at the end of December because of the demand. So if you would like to visit Santo Domingo during the month of December or January, make sure you reserve tickets on time.

But anytime is a great time to go!!!!

  • Tip Rating:
  • This is the Faro a Colon, site where the rests of Christopher Columbus lay. It is also filled with paintings, just like a museum. I had the chance of going to the top of it and you can see the whole city of Santo Domingo from it! Really awesome view! At night, the Faro a Colon lights up the sky in the shape of a cross. It's a beautiful view!

  • This is the first church built in the New World. It is approx. 500 years old and its called La Primada de America. It's still in great condition and preserved very well. It is free to get in, but make sure you are dressed appropriately. No shorts allowed.

Things To Do: Alcazar de Colon
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is the Alcazar de Colon, where Christopher Columbus' family lived in. It is located next to the Rio Ozama, in the avenida del Puerto. It is still in great condition.

You are welcome to view it anytime, but if you would like to get inside, you have to be there before 5 p.m. and pay a small fee. Inside are many treasures, furniture and objects that belonged to Columbus' family.

  • Tip Rating:
  • This is the avenida de La Independencia. It is a rather new boulevard because they reconstructed it less than 4 years ago. It's very nice to go walking here, some restaurants are here, too.

Hola Patricia! I liked your page, we have in common that we spent our childhood years there, I lived in the beautiful Dominican Republic from age 6 to age 12 and those were the best years of my life!
