Lilongwe Hotel Tips by hongkong88

I stayed for 2 1/2 weeks on a recent business trip. It is a nice hotel I would rate at three stars. It has a new deluxe wing I would rate at 4 starts, get one of those if you can. My regular room had a shower no tub and the whole room was basically clean but rather worn. The staff is very friendly. They have a generator so electricity is reliable. The longest it went out was about an hour. The TV has about 8 English channels including two movie channels from South Africa (lots of Canadian movies you've never heard of) and some international sports (think soccer and cricket). The Copper Pot restaurant is very good and we ate there 3-4 times during our stay. The breakfast buffet is in the room off the lobby and is included in the price and looked OK. Made to order eggs and some side dishes and even some dishes I would consider dinner entrees. I am a corn flakes and toast person so I can't comments from experience. Malawi is no tourist paradise but it is a nice place and Lilongwe has a surprisingly good choice of places to eat.

Unique Qualities: The location. It is part of the Crossroads strip mall. It includes a market, Steers (SA fast food) and a SA pizza chain. I tried both and they were good. It also has a money change bureau with good rates.

Comparison: more expensive than average
