The Attersee and its ever-changing colours

Gustav Klimt painted about 22 landscapes of the Attersee, mostly of Unterach, which he saw easily across the water, from his house in Weissenbach. The ever-changing colours fascinated him and so did they fascinate us, because in a week we had clear and cloudy, hot and cold weather, here in the Salzkammergut.

Boat trip on the Attersee

The Southern boat tour on the Attersee is a nice and relaxing experience. Do not step off the boat in Weyregg because there is, apart from nice swimming places and an aquarium, nothing to see. And it takes 2 1/2 our before the next boat picks you up.
When there is sunshine, this lake is as beautiful as a North-Italian alpine lake (Lago di Garda, Lago Maggiore etc.).

Trips from here

Quite some interesting places to visit in the neighborhood: Ebensee on the Traunsee lake and the Feuerkogel mountain (see my photos), Sankt Gilgen and Sankt Wolfgang on the Wolfgangsee lake, Bad Ischl and Halstatt, the latter with its salt mine. A visit to Salzburg (via the Mondsee lake) takes only an hour of car travel time.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Public swimming at the lake, views, quiet city centre
  • Cons:Not many easy walking trails around, biking on busy & dangerous roads
  • In a nutshell:A room with a view gives a glance of paradise
