Cheap Souvenirs or Designer Glass

Murano glass rings
Murano is a must-see for every Venice visitor. It's only 10 minutes by vaporetto, so no excuse not to go! It's a small island, you easily walk around it in a morning or afternoon, taking in all the glass shops. I thought the stores along Fondamenta dei Vetrai and Fondamenta Manin the nicest, mainly because they had the most special designs. Other smaller shops on Murano mainly sold more of the same, though better quality and prices than Venice itself. Next to the glass works Murano is also nice for a quiet walk, a stroll along the few canals and a bite to eat.
Fondamenta dei Vetrai
S. Donato
Chiesa Dei SS Maria e Donato was founded in the 7th century and rebuilt 500 years later. Originally dedicated to the Virgin Mary, it was rededicated to St. Donato after he had supposedly killed a dragon on the Greek island of Cephalonia and his and the dragon's bones were brought back to Murano.

Pros:"Small, so it's easy to take in. All is glass, you can't miss it!"
Cons:"Very touristy, can get crowded, shops are mainly small ones."
In A Nutshell:"Great morning/afternoon out of town, good stop on the way to other islands in the lagoon."
