Victoria Park Market is a great place to get your gifts. I found the stuff on Queenstreet rather 'more of the same', so ended up at V.Market and got some really special gifts. It's not too big, but cosy and it has all you want for presents. Treat yourself!

When going up Skytower, ask for a Sun&Stars ticket. It's mentioned on the website, but not on the admissions board inside. It means that you have a daytime and a nighttime entry on one ticket. (for the price of 1 1/2 entry). You don't have to do both entries on the same day; the ticket just gets stamped. I quite liked to see Auckland in daylight, but thought it more special at night. I went up just before the sun set; so besides great skies, you also slowly see more streetlights switched on. I stayed until it was completely dark. Magical!

Auckland's Harbour Cruise is not really spectacular; sometimes it's just nice to be on a ferry. Rain doesn't make it any more attractive, but it's good enough for a picture. This pink factory is what's left of the country's only sugar refinery. It's just outside Harbour Bridge. Nice thing about the Harbour Cruise though; the commentary is good, you get a cookie when boarding and the ticket is also valid for a return to Devonport. Fuller's ticketbooth is next to the Ferry Building.

I could stay on Devonport forever! It's cute houses, it's beautiful flowers, it's volcanoes, it's picture postcard prettyness... Get yourself a Devonport brochure at the ferry building; there's a good walk in it, that you can easily do in a morning or afternoon. The ferry to Devonport leaves every 15 minutes and takes you across the Bay in 10. You can walk the 2 volcanoes (easy walks) and then hit town for lunch/dinner and some shopping. It's small, but cosy and still part of Auckland!
