Foundations of the Petrovaradinian Fortress are made by Hungarians in the 13th century. In 1526 it was attacked by the Turks and remained in Turkish hands until 1687 when it was won by Austria during the Grand Vienna War. Rebuilt in 1727 in the fortress we can see today.
The Austrians expanded the underground tunnel network, the bastions of Hornverk and Wasserstadt, as well as a bridgehead and small fort on an island in the Danube.
There is a historical museum which I higly recommend to everyone.
Every year in the first decade of July EXIT festival turning its speakers on and party is about to start. www.exitfest.org
On the right you can notice brick like building, Tanurdzic`s Palace built in 1933. Nikola Tanurdzic and Lazar Dunderski were feudal land-owners, responsibile for developing morden kapitalism in Vojvodina.
In 1941 comunists took away their properties by force.
Today, their grandchildren are struggling with authorities about the heritage.
is one of the meeting points of Novi Sad, built in 1893 by the project of Djerdj Molnar who is also responsible for the townhall arhitecture, opposite to the church. It burnt once and rebuilt by nobles of Vojvodina in that time. Their family seals are painted on windows.
The church is dedicated to Mother Marry.
In the middle of the emporium (was a market place in the past) is a monument dedicated to Svetozar Miletic, an advocate, politician and mayor of Novi Sad. He was a political fighter for the freedom and rights of Serbs and other peoples in Austria-Hungary.
He developed agricultural credit system in Serbia.
