Cameroon

Beautiful, cultured, safe and above all Africa

When i first thought about doing some voluntary work in Cameroon i tried to imagine what it would be like. My pre conceptions of Africa was of vast savanas, lions and giraffes, savage poverty, AIDS, dictators, civil war, and lots of dust. Although some parts of Africa match parts of these descriptions I was about to find out how big Africa is an how wrong I was.
Cameroon has landscapes from all over Africa, with dense rainforests in the South, Savana in the North and sub tropical highlands in the North West. With such diverse landscapes, unique culture, friendly people and stunning scenery Cameroon truly is the perfect tourist destination.
Add to this the ridiculous cheapness, freedom to travel safely, amazing trekking possibilities and the fact you probably will not meet another western tourist makes it a backpackers dream.

Belo Village

Situated 45 mins shared taxi ride from Bamenda in the North West province is the picturesque highland village of Belo. Although not mentioned in any guidebooks yet this beautiful village is the access point to a secret paradise for the outdoor enthusiast. The vast opportunity for trekking, mountain biking, camping, birdwatching, and walking is superb. Add to this the Unique cultures of the Kom tribe and the Fulani herdsmen, juju death celebration dances and christian accapellas, the opportunities off the beaten track are still as yet largely undiscovered.
