columbia is a town in central tennessee south of nashville. columbia is the county seat of maury county tennessee. nicknamed "mule town", columbia hosts a mule days celebration every april. for those interested in architecture and southern culture there are several antebellum plantation homes in the area as well as the home of future president james j. polk and the boyhood home of confederate general nathan bedford forrest. columbia is well worth the ten minute side trip off of I-65 when traveling between huntsville alabama and nashville tennessee.
