the las vegas monorail is good way to get to most of the casinos and hotels on the strip. if you are staying on the strip and working the las vegas convention center it is the best and cheapest way to go to and from the convention center and the strip. if you are staying at the las vegas hilton it is also the best form of transportation to the strip. from the south the monorail begins at mgm grand and ends at the sahara with stops very three blocks and stops at the convention center and the hilton. as of january 2008 the one ticket price is $5 and a 24 hour pass is $9. there are ticket machines near the entrance to the monorail stops.

there is no public transportation to and from mcarran airport. you have two options, take a private shuttle or a taxi. if staying on the south strip, ie the area around the MGM it is best to take a taxi. if you are staying in the central or north strip or downtown a shuttle will be considerably cheaper. the only problem with a shuttle is that they may make several stops and takes more time than a taxi. if you are in a hurry to get to the airport a taxi will your best option.

las vegas strip
the "duce" bus runs from the south strip (mandalay bay hotel) to fremont street downtown. the duce stops at almost every casino hotel on the strip. as of january 2008 a single ticket fare is $2 and a 24 hour pass is $5. the duce is part of the CAT bus system and you can transfer to any other bus on the system. the main reason to take the duce is that it is the cheapest way to get from the strip to downtown. the only drawback is because of it's numerous stops it takes about 1/2 an hour to get from the mandalay bay to downtown and visa versa. your other option is a taxi but the fare from the south strip to downtown will be around $20 one way.

there is a free monorail shuttle between mandalay bay hotel and the excalabur hotel with a stop at the luxor. if you are traveling on the vegas monorail system get off at the mgm grand and cross las vegas blvd to the excalabur to continue on to the luxor and mandalay bay. there is also a free tram between the mirage and treasure island.
