st. george island is a barrier island in the gulf of mexico near the town of apalachicola in northwest florida. st. george island is twenty eight miles long and two miles wide. st. george island was originally inhabited by the creek native american tribe. in 1803 the creeks ceded the island to john forbes. today st. george island is popular northwest florida summer vacation destination. on the east end of the island is st. george island state park and on the west end of the island is an exclusive housing development with mulimillion dollar beach front homes. central st. george island has a small commercial district with motels, restaurants, bars, and shops. st. george island is a beautiful place to visit when in northwest florida.
