clermont is located 22 miles west of orlando near the intersection of highways US 27 and US 50. clermont was founded in 1884 and was incorporated in 1916. clermont is in the central florida ridge area that is considered hilly for florida. clermont was known for it's citrus industry until the late 1980's when a hard freeze killed most of the citrus trees in orange and south lake county. because of it's proximity to orlando and disney world clermont has become part of the orlando urban sprawl. clermont's main tourist attraction is the citrus tower built in 1956. prior to the freeze you could see thousands of acres of orange groves from the tower. today the landscape is housing developments and shopping centers. the lakes around clermont are known for their excellent bass fishing. clermont is a nice town to visit when in the orlando area.
