moundville is a native american archaelogical site located on SR 69 about 15 miles south of tuscaloosa. the mississippi native american culture built mounds on this site between 1000 AD and 1450 AD. moundville was once the largest town in north america with a population of over 1,000 inhabitants. moundville covers 300 acres and is the second largest native american town in north america in land area. moundville offers a museum, nature trail, and a picnic area. for those interested in archaeology, native american culture, and nature moundville is a very worth while side trip when in the tuscaloosa area.
