ripoll is a beautiful market town in the mountains of catalonia. ripoll is considered the "cradle of catalonia" because it was the power base of guifre el pelos, (wilfred the hairy). guifre was the founder of the five hundred year dynasty of the house of barcelona. from ripoll guifre launched raids against the moors in catalonia. in the center of town is the monestir de santa maria where guifre is buried.
