    • the roskilde viking boat museum contains five viking ships that are over a thousand years old. these boats were sunk in the roskilde fjord in order to block the harbor against a swedish invasion. the museum also has a large collection of replica viking ships and an interesting boat yard that shows how the vikings built these ships. open 10:00am to 5:00pm daily. this is a worth while side trip when visiting copenhagen.

    Directions: about 30 miles west of copenhagen. trains from copenhagen's central station leave around every 30 minutes. located on the roskilde fjord a short distance from the roskilde train station. you can take a taxi or about a 20 minute walk.

    • the koskilde domkirke is a worth while place to visit when in roskilde. this beautiful brick cathedral was built in the 12 th century AD. the cathedral is the burial site of denmark's kings and queens. the remains of harald bluetooth, the first christian king of denmark are in one of the columns to the side of the main altar. the cathedral also houses the tomb of the famous danish queen, margrethe I.
