brescia is one of those towns that is under the average visitor to italy's "radar". if you are traveling by car or train through lombardy it is well worth a visit. near the piazza del foro is the roman ruins of the tempio capitolino. just down the street is the museo della citta or santa giulia. this museum is very interesting. the upper part of the museum is the medieval church of santa giulia. this church was built over the ruins of the original roman town. the roman mosaic floors under the church are really worth seeing. also the museum has an interesting collection of roman coins, tools and weapons. another interesting museum in brescia is the pinacoteca civica tosio martinengo featuring renaissance art. an interesting square is the piazza vittoriale. it is surrounded by 1930's mussolini era buildings. |
