"The city between the mountains" Innsbruck by SandiMandi

After having spent three relaxing and sunny days at lake Garda, I didn't find Innsbruck very inviting. It looked kind of dull and grey, and not very charming. I'm sure it seemed that way to me mainly because I was very hungry, very tired of sitting in the car, driving around in a strange town without a map and trying to find yet another hotel in yet another town, which you knew nothing of. Finally we found a reasonably priced hotel and after settling down, we wandered off to the old town to get something to eat.

After a proper meal and a delicious apfel strudel for dessert, Innsbruck started to feel a bit more welcoming, but still I wouldn't say it's my favourite place in Austria.

On our way to the town square we saw a lot of policemen all over the town and were wondering what was going on... That we found out when we got to the square and saw this demonstration with hundreds of people chanting and whistling. At first I was a bit worried, as I kept thinking of all the riots I've seen on the news, but fortunately it turned out to be quite a peaceful demonstration after all.

I do like the scenery in Innsbruck, it was amazing with all the mountains surrounding the town. And the old colourful and decorative buildings are beautiful. Unfortunately all the mountain tops were covered with thick clouds, which was a shame. Also, compared to the clear water I saw in Salzburg, the river that runs through Innsbruck looked very ugly with the grayish brown water!
