Copenhagen

Summer 2008

This summer I made a trip abroad all by myself, for the first time. It was unplanned, I just wanted to get away for a while and with such short notice the cheapest flights seemed to be to Copenhagen. So I booked the flight and in a few days I was on my way! I've always been scared of flying and thought that I'd be even more terrified when traveling all alone, but for my surprise, I wasn't scared at all!

Copenhagen was a great city, I liked it from the moment I arrived! It wasn't t too big and yet not too small, there were lots of things to do and the people seemed friendly and all spoke good English. I loved wandering along Ströget and the side streets and just sitting at cafes and watching people. Unfortunately only had 2 full days in Copenhagen, but I'm sure I'll be back some day!

My first trip (as far as I can remember) was to Sweden and Scotland in the early eighties. Me and my family went to Gothenburg, Sweden to see some relatives and from there we went to Newcastle, England by boat. Our final destination was Edinburgh, Scotland where we stayed at my aunt's, who lived there (and still does). Unfortunately I don't remember much about this trip, because I was only about 6 yrs old at the time. I made a few more trips to Edinburgh in 1980's and 1990's. On my latest trip in 1999 I even managed to see Queen Elizabeth. Me and my sister went on a daytrip to Glasgow and had no idea that the Queen would be there as well for the opening of a shopping centre!

Living abroad

In 1998 I was living in St. Petersburg, Russia for three months. Back then I was studying Russian translation in the University of Helsinki, and when I got a chance to study in St. Petersburg I took it without hesitation. It was quite an experience! I've made a couple of short trips to St. Petersburg after that, too.

My first and so far only trip outside Europe was in 2004 when I went to Dubai with my mom. We stayed there for a week, and I really liked it in Dubai as you can easily combine both city and beach holiday. Also, I love shopping and Dubai, with all its huge shopping centres, was a heaven for me! ;) I wish to go back some day and see how the city's changed.
