"Limone Sur Garda" Garda by marieangel

Limone is a fantastic little town in the most beautiful of locations. virtually traffic free it clings to the edge of dramatic mountains which line the edge of Lake Garda. The streets are narrow and lined with little shops, restaurants and bars. This then opens up into a larger promenade from where you can hire boats and go on trips across the lake. At the end of the prom is a large public beach.

We stayed just out of town in the dramatically posistioned Hotel Panorama. Its location is excellent, right on the mountain side, over looking the lake. Our room (and the same goes for most rooms) had a full lake view which was truely amazing. The hotel has a beautiful private beach which hardly anyone used, as most people stayed around the equally pleasant pool area. The hotel food was excellent, buffet style with free wine, we spent long pleasant evenings dining on the hotel terrace eating freshly caught fish, local hams, mussels, watermelon and pastas.
Evening entertainment was very low key but we could think of nothing better than sitting with a drink watching the twinkling lights from across the other side of the lake.
Of course you could head into Limone where throughout the summer spectacular shows perform on the lake front promenade and the bars bustle with customers. There is a free hotel minibus in and out of Limone, day and evening if you do not fancy the walk. We loved the walk, although it was a little hot at times. It is a 15/20 minute lake side walk (no traffic) which follows a windy up and down path through the lemon groves. Great for photos.

• Pros:Beautiful, some of the most stunning scenery I have seen.
• Cons:Be careful where you stay because of the main lake side road. This is one of the advantages of Limone because the road there goes into tunnels ands so it is not visible or audible. The scenery at the Limone end of the lake is more dramatic.
