Home of the oldest university in Germany. The university 's name is: Ruprecht Karl University of Heidelberg. Or simply known as The university of Heidleberg. Heidleberg is a small quaint town with adequate amount of restaurants and boasts what the towns people call the longest pedestrian only walkway (street?). This street consists of numerous stores for shopping and several eatries. Heidelberg also has an old castle (Heidelberg Castle) that dates back some 800 years. It is a popular tourist attraction and is on top of a hill. Have your walking shoes handy if you want to visit the castle because ascending the hill is a minor task. For a more exerting walk, cross the historic bridge in town to the other side of town away from the walkway I mentioned above and climb the hill there. The locals use it for jogging and walking (Romantic walking). You will also see a bit of privately owned gardens cropping up here and there. Heidelberg is also home to the first completely solar powered ferry in the world. We were previledged enough to ride in it in its maiden season. In short, it is a nice city, with lots of history, to visit. * * |
| | Heidelberg Bridge This shot shows the entrance to and from the bridge. At the other side of this view is the mountain for romantic walking. |
First solar powered ferry The ferry is completely covered on top by solar panels. It is actually larger that it seems in this picture. Take a ride on it if you are in town. We enjoyed the ride. | | |
