PARIS city of love

by JackM2006 - last update: Jul 15, 2006

La Défense

Arc de Triumphe from La Défense area.
What can I mention about Paris that hasn't been iterated by the local and foreign VTers as well. I guess I will just add my two cents to the vast information.
Things I wil recommend:
1) Take a ferry ride down the Seine at night. The views along the way is quite interesting.

2) Visit the local produce markets and antique shops. Never know what you might find.

3) Take a walk down Champs-Elysées at night. The atmophere is quite electric.

4) Have a picnic on the lawn across from the Eiffel tower in the evening.

5) Buy a rail pass and go as far as you can in all directions. You are here to know the city and the culture not just the popular sites. The train system in Paris is quite efficient and second to none in the world.

6) Take in a show. I am not talking about a movie. I mean a burlesque, play, opera etc. A bit pricey but worth it if you like such things.

7) Visit some of the pastry shops. Ask a local for a favorite. The pastries in Paris are to die for.

8) Ask a local for a nice restaurant in a non-tourist trap area and enjoy a leisurely meal. Cooking here is scrumptious.

9) Do not over plan your visit. Select a hanful of things you want to do or see then follow your impulse.

Where lovers picnic

The is a wonderful lawn to picnic in the evening. It is conveniently situated across from the eiffel tower. Get a Baguet, cheese, wine and sparkling water and have a nice time. The Montparnasse Tower, built in 1973, looms in the background.

Notre-Dame Cathedral

Bishop Maurice de Sully started the construction in 1163 and it was finally completed in 1345. The cathedral is probably the most famous in the world and it is truely majestic.
