We hated the air in Xi'an, our eyes were crying as soon as we walked out of the door of our hotel. The old Muslim quarter is quite interesting, as is the mosque. The dumpling place mentioned in LP was good (I can't remember the name, I'll add it on later if I do), and the people were friendly and helpful, especially the ones at our table.
We went there of course for the Terra Cotta warriors. Interesting of course, but a bit disappointing, I don't know why, probably because I expected so much. They are awesome because there are so many, and all different, but not because they are so big like the pyramids, or so beautiful like the stained glass in Chartres. Still, we were glad we went. At least we've seen them. My husband says they were very interesting, much more so than the pyramids, so I guess it all depends.
We also went to a restaurant that specialized in yangrou paomo, a soup dish mentioned in LP in which you break a sort of hard bread, but we found it rather weird and difficult to eat and not worth the trouble taste wise. The Muslim dumpling place was much more to our taste as well as Bell Tower restaurant, of course not in the same budget group (restaurant tips) |
