The first settlement was 7000 years BC. and the city was found 2000 years BC by touranis tribes on the Black Sea coast . Milet tribes had settled in the region in 756 BC .Later Pontus government was founded in Trabzon.Than Romans dominated the area before the division between east and west Roman Empire.In the period of Kommens Trabzon was the capital.Than the Turcs arrived to Anatolia in 1071 AC.Selçuk 's Akkoyunlu's and Karakoyunlu 's try to invade the city but the city was conquered in August 1461 by Sultan Mehmet the conqueror after the conquer of Istanbul.This is also the birth city of famous Ottoman sultan Souleiman ( suleyman in turkish) the Magnificient.Ataturk the founder of modern Turkey visit the city 3 times. The name of the city in the history was Trapezus which means "table" because the special stones of the city looks like a table |
