This is the vast chasm of Pazin and the bottom of this photo is thin air where the ledge I stood on to take it ended and one false step could send you hurtling into the abyss. Dramatic stuff but then this end of Pazin is all about drama. The chasm, the castle teetering on the brink of the chasm and beneath it all the cave of Pazin with its underground river and lakes. Geological wonder and setting for a novel by Jules Verne - this is Pazin. But Pazin wears two hats. The other one is its pleasant everyday country town hat and it wears this one just as confidently. So if you want drama or a cameo of life in a central Istrian hill town, Pazin can do both. The nice thing is you don't have to choose as both are freely available to all.
- Pros:A small town that has inspired many writers
- Cons:A little hard to get to on public transport
- In a nutshell:Jules Verne had the right idea

Porec has long been on my list of places I want to see, now nearby Pazin is on it too. You make it sound very enticing.
Some birthday ratings for you!! Sorry for being late. I've been struggling with my new laptop all week. All my nice old programs have become obsolete... It's like learning to walk again...
Katherine- the Pazin Chasm is indeed a marvellous geological wonder. Awesome. And I enjoyed the literary connection, as always. Lovely photographs.
Pazin seems to hold so much beauty and you have captures that essence as well as great detail comments.
What an interesting place and an excellent page here. Many thanks.
Well, although I'd never heard of Pazin, it now seems an appealing place to visit: history, scenery, a museum with English information, agreeable streets and tamed children! :) Very enjoyable.
Hi Katherine, I enjoyed reading your interesting tips on the Vladimir Nazor and Jules Verne connections -- and the well-mannered children of Pazin. (And thanks for your visit to my Innsbruck page.)
Next Croatian stop Pazin I think. If only I had the time to read your tips LOL. Croatia is beautiful
Croatia is still my white spot on the European map as well as all the states of former Jugoslavia. May be one day I'll paint it in blue... Merry Christmas Katherine!
Beautiful descriptions of the attractions of Pazin itself as well as the surrounding countryside! It sounds and looks like the sort of place I would love to visit. Fantastic views of the castle and its amazing gorge too!!
