An Oasis is Always Welcome

My visions of an oasis were slightly smaller. I had pictured a few palm trees, looming up like a mirage through clouds of dust, as I wearily dismounted from my even wearier camel. Ein Gedi isn't quite like that. The photo shows the enormous parking lot where coaches and cars park as people get out to use the beach, the restaurant, go trekking or all the many other things you can do here.

But even for those of us who hadn't arrived by camel or on foot, it was a very welcome sight after a hard morning in the Judean desert. The rush for the Ladies Room was instant as people attempted to drag combs through wind-tossed hair and anoint faces with blessedly cool water.

Good thing this oasis was not a mirage, Katherine! It must have been welcome after the heat of the desert. Nice photos.

This looks an interesting trip Katherine and right up to your usual high standard. The story about the off-road bus reminded me of the old line that "these things DO have shock absorbers - we call them passengers".

Katherine, fabulous little page with brilliant photos. I almost got a sunburn from only reading your tips about the Dead Sea. *winkygrin*
