Beautiful city with a rich history and plenty of landmarks. Not many tourists because it is overshadowed by Pisa.
Recommendation - Use Pistoia as your base of operations to see Pisa and Florence
Pistoia is just south of the Appenines for those that enjoy good hiking.
Recommendation - Go to Futa Pass and hike the divide.
For you history buffs, the region is loaded with relics from the Northern Appenine Campaign particularly along the Gothic Line of German Defenses.
Recommendation - Travel to Riva Ridge and see where the 10th Mountain Division "Climbed to Glory". Also stop by the site where Bob Dole was injured while saving a comrade.
