Maryland: America in miniature

Maryland, My Maryland!

The Old Statehouse in St. Mary's City
Maryland is my home state. It was the 7th state to be admitted into the union and was one of the original 13th colonies. It was named after Queen Henrietta Maria who was the wife of Charles I, King of England, who signed the charter establishing Maryland in 1632. Lord Baltimore, wanted to create a place in the New World that would tolerate all religious beliefs. In 1633 his son Leonard Calvert and a group of 128 colonists boarded the ships Ark and Dove and sailed for the Chesapeake Bay. They stopped briefly in Jamestown, then headed north up the Potomac River. They stopped at St. Clement’s Island, and on March 25, 1634, celebrated the first Roman Catholic Mass in the colonies

Maryland was admitted into the union of the United States on April 28, 1788. Annapolis is the state capital and its biggest city is Baltimore. Maryland is a mixture of the north and the south. Annapolis actually looks like a town that one would find in New England. Other sites, such as the Sotterly Plantation, would remind one of the deep south!

Morning! I'm about to accompany a Union member to a disciplinary hearing - I'm far too bouncy for that! I have SO many excellent arguments without even getting into the case itself! Oh goodness! Gillybob greetings
