  • See the Wailing Wall and The Underground Tunnel Tour; The Temple Mount or Dome of the Rock, to the South is the Al Aqsa Mosque; and stroll through the Jewish Cardo, it's shops and see the old columns still standing.

From Lion's (Stephen's ) Gate is the Church of Condemnation and Flagellation, it is from here that the 7 Stations of the Cross start known as via Dolorosa lead to The Holy Sepluchre.

From Damascus Gate, go straight up Nablus Road to see the Garden Tomb and view Calvary. The Falafel at Damascus Gate is great and the sights and sounds are unforgettable.

Other things to do: Walk the Ramparts (the City Walls), Tower of David (Jaffa Gate), The Upper Room a.k.a Last Supper Room/David's Tomb (Zion's Gate), and The City of David. Further away is The Mount of Olives and Garden of Gethsemane.

From Jaffa Gate, walk up the street and continue up to the Ben Yahuda area, shop, and visit the cafes. The area is closed to traffic. Further up is the market - thou preparest a table before me - vegetables, fruit, cheese... it's an experience particularly when crowded with shoppers.

Along the way stop at one of the many cafes and sample the delightful pastry breads stuffed with chocolate, cheese or spinach.

The Wailing Wall (Western Wall): The Plaza and Wailing Wall

  • See the Wailing Wall in the Old City, enter through Dung Gate. Pass through the security and metal detectors - get ready to take EVERYTHING out of your pockets. Cement barriers separate the worshippers from the plaza, where prayer requests are written on tiny peices of paper then folded up and lodged between wall stones.

Above is The Temple Mount or Dome of the Rock that houses the rock that Abraham was going to sacrifice Issac on and to the South is the Al Aqsa Mosque.

To left is the entrance for The Underground Tunnel Tour.

  • Facing the Wailing Wall, on your left is the Entrance to the Underground Tunnel Tour. But first, you need to be the list, so drop by the Tourist Information Centre just inside Jaffa Gate for the telephone number. Call from your hotel to make a reservation, then show up before it starts to buy the entrance ticket. Directly opposite the Wailing Wall, is the ticket booth, the phone number can also be obtained here. I got a spot on the 6:30pm English Tour. The tour normally exits from the Muslim Quarter, but since the Gate was closed we turned around underground and came out back where we started.
