Since the departure of the American Marines from the small town of Pattaya in the seventies, tens and tens of reviews and travel guides have been written about the nightlife and sex life in Pattaya. In fact, Pattaya does not need any travel guide, in particular, for European tourists. This review, however, provides some tips to non-European tourists from Asian and Middleastern countries.
The first fact that every Non European tourist to Pattaya should know is that 85% or more of the most projects, shopping malls, bars, hotels and condos are financed and managed by white Europeans known as 'farangs' especially from Germany, England and the Netherland. Without farang's financial support, management and investment, Pattaya would not have reached this stage of prosperity. In recent years the numbers of European countries have dramatically increased. Furthermore, it is farangs management skills that have moved the economy forward. Some farangs have already settled in Pattaya and have Thai families.
For Thai people, therefore, farangs are the saviors; symbols of life and without them, Pattaya becomes dead and people look sad. If you visit Pattaya during the off season (July-August), you will notice most of the people complain, look depressed and when you ask them about the reason, they reply: 'no hap farang' (don’t have farang).
In recent years, however, the connotation of the word 'farang' has completely changed. Nowadays, any white-skinned person is for Thais are considered 'farang', irrespective of nationality; those white people who come from Lebanon, Turkey, Israel, Iran and South Africa are all considered 'farangs'. However, they only know if you are real farang or fake farang when they ask you about your nationality.
Another fact that colored tourists should realize is that European farangs (as different from other white skinned creatures) have brought some kind of social harmony to Pattaya. How? Since Pattaya has become a sex tourist spot, thousands and thousands of Thai ladies who used to work in bars and Agogos have grown older and older. These mature ladies have no customers among other international tourists. Their only salvation lies in the hands of senior farangs. Yes, most of these mature ladies now work as nannies, caretakers or simply companions to old retired farangs. Without farangs, there would have been a serious social chaos in Pattaya. This is another reason why farangs are revered and respected n Pattaya. Furthermore, young farangs who come to Pattaya do not look as many non-European tourists do, for queen beauties. For them, primitivism, nativism and indigenous qualities are what they are after. So slim and skinny and tiny Thai ladies are their favorites. This is another reason why farangs are wanted in Pattaya. So don’t get surprised when you find yourself as a Middle eastern or Asian (colored) tourist not welcomed at some bars. Thai ladies want a European farang because there is 50% chance that he will take her as a wife. Does that mean that Thai people are racist? Not at all. Thai people like everyone else have their own preferences and faourites.
Having said so, one should also add that European farangs have turned Pattaya, through their investment, into a brothel, promoting sex industry for Europeans. Bluntly speaking and no offense is meant, Pattaya is not a healthy place for physically and sexually active young men who come from free sex societies (Europe & America).
Pattaya is meant for depressed and lonely pensioners and the retired, the homosexuals, the transvestites, the sexually deprived individuals who come from strict religious societies in the Middle East and Asia, the psychos who wish to try twosome and threesome sex and the physically and mentally challenged individuals.
