Chalkidiki - if you want Greek | Beach on the Kassandra peninsula. |
Page under construction!
I've been coming here every summer for a month since I was born, my parents just love it so much.
This is the perfect place for camping, there are probably more campings than hotels. It is a place that is more occupied by Greeks than tourists, and during the week-end there is a huge flow of cars coming from Thessaloniki, people that arrive to campings at Friday and leave on Sunday night to work on Monday. Now, those are days that you should consider the fact that there might be a lot of traffic on the small roads of Chalkidiki.
If you want to relax and enjoy beautiful beaches, I strongly recommend taking a car from Thessaloniki and driving though Chalkidiki, stopping on any camping you want for a couple of nights, a tent and mattress is all you need.
There are 3 peninsula in Chalkidiki:
Kassandra Sithonia Mount Athos (women not allowed, men only admitted by special permit)
We had been travelling to Kassandra until about 1996, and then we changed to Sithonia and a camping near the village Neos Marmaras, but it's easy to travel between the peninsula by car or bus. There are also buses taking you to and from Thessaloniki, the 2nd largest city of Greece, almost every day.
The nighlife on both peninsula is nice, there are many bars and cafés but less clubs.
The sea in Greece is said to be the cleanest in Europe. |

| | The beauty of nature... The sunsets in Greece are really stunning, it's different every day, and sometimes you can't believe it's real - it looks more like a beautiful painting. Very very romantic. |
The beaches... I mean wow, there's a reason why Greece is said to have THE most beautiful beaches in Europe. Fine white sand, warm emerald green sea, what more do you need for complete soul relaxation?
This picture is taken at Poseidi, a place at the Kassandra peninsula. This place is more for young people, there's a camp here that exists primarily for students of the Aristotle university of Thessaloniki - and on the week-ends, this place is stuffed with young people out for fun, and so is Cocus Beach Bar, which always is there with its nice and smiling staff, offering you cooling drinks and playing great music while you kick back and relax in your sunchair. | | | Cocus Beach Bar at Poseidi, Kassandra peninsula. |

| Pros: | "Beautiful beaches and more Greeks than tourists." | | Cons: | "Hmm... maybe one thing: it might become noisy during week-ends when there are a lot of Greek campers around." | | In A Nutshell: | "A paradise with white beaches and crystal clear sea." |
