As a matter of fact there are only 4 hotels in the outskirts of Brela that has only 1,000 inhabitants. Along the sea front to one direction you can find private houses which host people for the summer and in the other direction the "center" with 2 mini supermarkets and foreign exchange. There is no Chemist's, the nearest one is in Bashka Voda wich is about 30 minutes on foot along the sea so it is a good way to take essential medicine with you.
Hotels Menistral and Marina are next to each other. The Minestral is smaller but there is a swimming pool there which in fact few use as there is a beautiful sea with pine trees growing on the beach just a few meters from the hotel. All the entertainment takes place in the Minestral. The Marina hotel is bigger but quieter. Nice rooms with modern bath facilities and deep balconies that is why even on the Sun side the sun didn't get in the room. The rooms are quite spacious and air conditioned. The restauran offers wide varieties of dishes and on the beach you can always eat something in nice restaurants facing the sea.
The hotel is sarrounded with pine trees and they give terrific smell at night. There are a few blocks there and the best is D which is closest to the sea and the pine trees come up to it very closely. Sitting on the balcony you can smell the beautiful sent of the sea and the trees.

If you want to enjoy the best smell of the pine-trees it is better to come from the 1st of July on. But at this time there are already more people. In June the weather isn't so stable but there are fewer people and you can enjoy fantastic thunderstorms with lightnings cutting the skies above the mountains.
There is a walking pass along the sea - more than 5 km so you have a choice where to swim. Personally I got up early in the morning and walked 40 minuts along the coast enjoying the morning coolness. There are a lot of benches in the shadow of pine trees and rocks where you can hide in the afternoon from the heat of the sun. I also liked to spend day hours in the forest on the slope of the mountains.
For about 1.5 hours I was alone on the beach. The water is very clear everywhere and the sea is clean. The beaches are pebble that is why many people wear special rubber slippers but I did without them. Walking on the pebble give you a fine massage free! :-) On big stones in water there are sea urchins but if you are careful you can easily avoid stepping on them.
If you are lazy to walk :-) you can as well remain on the beach in fron of the hotels as my friend did.

Where to go

There are a lot of excursions you can take if you are tired of unwinding at the sea. You can go to the National Botanic park whcih is on the mountain towering above Brela. Of course Plitvinsky Lakes are worth seeing. Not far there is a mediaval town Dubrovnik with its nice winding streets.
If you like you can also go rafting along a picturesque river not far from Brela. It cuts its way in high rocks. Waterfalls in another national park Kirka are also impressive.
Of course it is possible to book excursions but if you are not afraid of driving along winding roads in the mountains it is a good idea to rent a car. The third option is to travel on your own. You can always catch a mini bus which can take you to some towns along the coast. But since the buses don't have regular time-table you can waist a lot of time waiting for it.
Croatian people are very friendly and they care about preserving their nature.
