The meeting was fun and photos are uploaded.
Walt Disney World (WDW) is located southwest of downtown Orlando and about 20 miles or so from the Orlando International Airport.
Unlike Disneyland in California, Paris, Hong Kong or Tokyo, WDW includes" Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Disney-MGM Studios, Epcot-World Showcase, Downtown Disney, Pleasure Island, Disney's Boardwalk, Wide World of Sports, and Blizzard Beach & Typhoon Lagoon waterparks.
Some interesting facts:
The average daily attendance is over 200,000
WDW offers 27,000 rooms
WDW consists of 46 square miles -(30,000 acres) & only 7,100 acres are developed
There are approximately 35,000 employees (cast members) at any given time
There are 2.5 millions costume pieces for all the cast members
WDW has 15 miles of monorail connecting 2 of the theme parks
The official WDW website: http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/index.
There are so MANY unofficial websites on Disneyworld and some are excellent in terms of tips and info. A google search will deliver enough for an evenings' readings.
The big four parks in WDW are:
Magic Kingdom (similar to what is found in the Disneylands)
Disney-MGM Studios
Animal Kingdom
Epcot & the World Showcase
I have been to WDW on over 100 days and stayed on Disney properties 25 times or more. I still have not seen nor done EVERYTHING there is to do.
With enlargements and added features each year, it is difficult to keep up with all the things WDW has to offer since each return visit inlcludes doing those things I've loved from the start.
I would probably say that Epcot & the World Showcase is my favorite because it appeals more to adults but certainly it is enjoyed by children.
Weather @ WDW or Florida for that matter is not controlled by Disney.
If it is summer time, plan on hot, humid and probably an afternoon downpour with accompanying thunder & lighting storms. Most of Florida's rain occurs during "Hurricane Season" which is June 1 to November 30.
If it is winter time, plan on cool weather that might require a coat in the morning but warming in the afternoon sun. There usually is little rain in the winter time.
- Pros:This is a wonderful, safe and varied environment for every person on earth with no exclusions
- Cons:It can be expensive but this is offset by the quality & quantity of entertainment, food & lodgings and of course, the souvenirs.
- In a nutshell:The Happiness Place on Earth (to quote Disneyworld)
