The Travel Slut visits Bermuda--October 2006

by TheTravelSlut - last update: Jan 26, 2007

I went for beaches & water but loved so much more

Church Bay was for the adventurous that day
Unfortunately for me, the weather was a little uncooperative during my three days on Bermuda.

The rain was not really a bother but the thunderstorms and lightning (a sailboat was struck in the water in Hamilton) plus some heavy surf and onshore winds made for a difficult time in getting into the waters.

Turning lemons into lemonade, I was able to explore the island a little more than I would have and met some great folks along the way.
Horseshoe Bay on the South Shore

An island of many facets

Bermuda consists of over 300 islands--most small but there are several major island that are connected by bridges and serviced by both roadway and ferries.

The island is not in the Caribbean but it has that Caribbean feel and flair. The people are laid back, very friendly and with the exception of most things being rather expensive, life seems pretty simple.
The island offers something for everyone

Bigger than I expected, smaller enough still

While Bermuda is not large in size, it does take a while to get from one end to the other.

The terrain is hilly, not real flat but you are never far from water.

It has all the modern conveniences with apparently few, if any, tradeoffs.

Pros:"Nice, clean, easy to navigate, laid-back"
Cons:"Expensive, very expensive"
In A Nutshell:"An island paradise aptly described by others as wonderful"
