AUTUMN COLORS

Favorite thing: My favorite time of year in New York State is the Fall. There is nothing to see here more beautiful than the mountains, streams, roadways and homes outlined by brillant reds, oranges, yellows, greens, and browns. There is a peak week to see the beautiful colors and it really depends on what area of the state you live in or are visiting. CATSKILLS REGION

Favorite thing: The Catskils Region is rather close to New York City. You can get to it in under two hours by car or you can take the train to get here. The Catskills region features glorious mountains which are legendary. It also offers a wide variety of accommodations ranging from world-famous resorts (The Mohonk Mountain House, see New Paltz) to dude ranches (The Rocking Horse Ranch, see New Paltz). This region lacks the crazy crowds of most touristy regions in New York State. The Catskilsl have activities for just about everyone including antiquing, historic sites, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, hunting, canoeing, skiing, snow shoeing.
The Catskills also house several famous ski resorts (Hunter Mountain and Wyndam) which offer year round entertainment. Some off season activities include art fairs, concerts and ethnic dance celebrations. The streams of the Catskills region are known for their terrific trout fishing. The Catskill region is also home to fly fishing in the US. Make sure to visit the Fly Fishing Center in Sullivan county.
