Favorite Thing: This is a 13th century gothic church built on top of a temple to the goddess Minerva. I loved the blue star-studded ceiling in this church. Michelangelo's Risen Christ is located near the altar. Apparently, the church officials were so shocked by the nudity, they put a little bronze 'cloth' on it to cover up the offensive bits. (Photo in my 'More Photos' travelogue). The remains of St Catherine are near the altar as well. The church is open from 7am - 7pm; do be respectful if there is a mass on.

Favorite Thing: This is one of my better half's favourite places to wander around. It features two lovely 17th century fountains by Borromini and Bernini and is surrounded by 16th century palaces. There are some nice shops and trendy (read: expensive) cafes along with the usual buskers and pickpockets. It is a nice place to visit in the evening time, too.

Favorite Thing: To be honest, I was disappointed in the Spanish Steps. It is really a place to hang out and pose but, not being posers, we didn't stay long. It is always packed with tourists and that means pickpockets and people pestering you to buy posters of Jimi Hendrix. Our guidebook warned us about 'The String Guys'. We didn't see them but apparently these guys will approach you in groups of 6 or 7 and offer to do a sleight of hand trick with string. While you are busy watching one of them, the others are busy removing your valuables. Be very careful here!

Favorite Thing: We quite liked the Trevi Fountain - it is really beautiful even though it is packed with tourists. We saw people drinking from the fountain and Rome's fountains are supposed to have clean water in them but with the number of people putting their hands in or throwing coins in, I think I would give it a miss. BTW, since the fountain was cleaned recently for the Giubileo, visitors are discouraged from throwing coins in as it can discolour the finish. We, of course, learned this after our visit. Oops. This is another popular hangout for the pickpockets so keep your wits about you as you jostle for a position on the fountain to have your photo taken.
