This was our first trip to Mexico and we wanted to stay a bit away from the more touristy area of Cancun so we chose Playa Del Carmen and the Hotel area of Playacar.We stayed at the RIU Palace Riviera Maya which was a brilliant Hotel. |
|  | The Riu Palace Riviera Maya This is the front of the hotel where we stayed and were treated like VIP's for the whole time .The hotel is only about 25 minutes walk from the shopping area of Playa Del Carmen and a taxi ride is about 5 minutes and costs 5 US Dollars or 500 Pesos. |

| | Chichén Itzá Although a fair way away from Playa Del Carmen ,in fact a 3 hour coach journey the ruins at Chichén Itzá are a very interesting site .We had a very informative guide and spent about 3 hours at the site .Although you are no longer allowed to climb the main Pyramid ther are still some smaller structures where you can clamber about |
